Privacy

Last updated 7 October 2026. Covers the Stroku channel for Roku, the Stroku Server app for Android, and this website.

The short version

There is no Stroku account, no Stroku server on the internet, and no analytics, tracking, or advertising in either app. What Stroku stores, it stores on your devices. What it sends, it sends directly to services you chose or that the app needs to show a catalogue. This project never receives your data.

What the channel stores on your Roku

Data	Why
Stremio sign-in key	Only if you link a Stremio account, to read and update your library and history.
Add-on manifest URLs	The add-ons you installed, including OpenSubtitles, which is added once by default.
Settings	Language, interface scale, subtitle language and look, default audio track, and the Stroku Server address if you set one.
Per-title subtitle choices	The subtitle track and delay you picked for each title, so they apply next time.

Your library and watch history are read from Stremio and kept in memory while the channel runs; they are not stored separately. Disconnecting the account in Settings deletes the sign-in key. Removing the channel deletes everything above.

What the channel sends, and to whom

• Stremio (api.strem.io, link.stremio.com), if you link an account: the link-code sign-in, your profile picture, and reading and writing your library and watch history. Stremio's privacy policy applies.
• Catalogue services: Cinemeta and its image hosts for titles, descriptions, and artwork; the public anime, YouTube channel, and public-domain catalogues shown on the home screen; and Stremio's add-on directory when you browse it.
• Your add-ons, including OpenSubtitles: each receives the request it needs to answer, such as the content type and title identifier.
• Stream and subtitle hosts: playing a stream or loading subtitles is an ordinary request from your Roku to that host, which sees your IP address.
• Stroku Server, if you set its address: requests stay on your home network.

None of this traffic passes through, or is visible to, this project. Roku itself collects device and usage data under Roku's privacy policy; Stroku adds nothing to it.

The phone setup page

While Stroku is open, your Roku serves a small page on your local network (port 8324). A phone on the same Wi-Fi uses it to send an add-on URL or a Stroku Server address to the TV. It is not reachable from the internet, and what you enter goes only to your Roku.

Stroku Server (Android)

• It is a BitTorrent client. When you play a torrent result through it, your phone downloads from and uploads to other peers, who see your phone's public IP address, as with any BitTorrent client.
• It serves the video to your Roku on your local network (port 11470). Downloaded data is deleted when you stop the server or play another title.
• It looks for Rokus on your Wi-Fi only when you tap Find Rokus, and contacts a Roku only when you tap Send.
• Permissions: internet and network state (to download and serve), Wi-Fi multicast (to find Rokus), a foreground service, wake lock, and notifications (to keep streaming while the screen is off, and show that it is running).
• It collects nothing and sends nothing to this project.

This website

The site is static. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google. The "Add to Roku" links go to the Roku Channel Store, which has its own policy.

Children

Stroku is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
